A fine quality late 18th Century Sheraton period well-figured mahogany Carlton House Desk boxwood & ebony line inlaid & satinwood banded throughout, having brass galleried top above small graduated drawers & side cupboards with central green tooled leather writing surface with lift up writing slide. The Desk, finished to the rear with 3 frieze drawers supported on square tapering legs ending on original brass castors.
This style of desk became popular when it was purchased by the Prince Regent, for his palatial London home called Carlton House. The desk was synonomous with the Prince's taste for not only French furniture but also for classic fine English furniture, and so the desk was associated with the name of his London establishment.
