A mid 18th Century Chippendale period well-figured mahogany serpentine Chest, having caddy top above cockbeaded brushing slide & graduated drawers retaining original handles, flanked by blind fret canted corners, supported on well-shaped ogee bracket feet with concealed castors.
It takes a skilled cabinet maker to create a serpentine shape out of mahogany, and this chest with its blind fret canted corners is no exception. Mostly, these pieces were found in important master bedrooms. Now you can find these examples equally at home sitting between tall windows in drawinig rooms, with a tall classical mirror above, or in an entrance hall. This chest, with its original rococo handles and shaped ogee bracket feet, could find a home anywhere.
